Hybrid Art - Mixed Media Art

Mixed Media Art - Merging Photography with Original Art

Hybrid Art is where my photography transforms into something more Mixed Media Art - each piece is a physical work, hand-altered through painting, collage, and layering on wood panels and canvas. There’s no digital manipulation here—just the raw, tactile process of working with materials, allowing the images to evolve through texture, depth, and imperfection.

Photography is my starting point, but the final artworks are something entirely new. By adding layers of paint, paper, and other mixed media, I break away from the frozen moment of a photograph and push it into the realm of fine art, where colors, textures, and forms merge in unexpected ways.

Hybrid Art - Collection

The Artistic Process:

My creative process is deeply rooted in manual techniques that emphasize direct interaction with materials:

  • Overpainting on Photographs: Utilizing mediums like acrylics and inks to modify and enhance the original photographic image, adding new dimensions and interpretations.

  • Collage Work: Incorporating fragments of photos, paper, and various textures to build layers that contribute to the artwork's depth and complexity.

  • Choice of Substrates: Employing bases such as paper, wood panels, and canvas to provide a tangible and organic foundation for the artwork.

  • Handcrafted Textures: Applying techniques like scratching, washing, and layering to introduce dimension and a sense of history to the piece.

Photography as a Living Mixed Media Art Medium

Unlike digital manipulation, these works are shaped by physical materials and intuitive handwork. Some pieces retain parts of the original photograph, while others become almost completely abstract, allowing texture and movement to take over.

Each mark, layer, and imperfection tell a story. The process is slow, organic, and unpredictable—embracing accidents, decay, and transformation. No two works are ever the same.

The Process: Creating by Hand

Each piece in Hybrid Art is a one-of-a-kind physical mixed media artwork, crafted with a mix of:

🎨 Overpainting on photographs – Using acrylics, inks, or other mediums to alter and enhance images
📸 Collage work – Layering fragments of photos, paper, and textures for depth and contrast
🖼 Paper, Wood panels & canvas as a base – Creating a tangible, organic surface for the work
✨ Handcrafted textures – Adding scratches, washes, and layers to build dimension

The result is a body of work that feels alive—where photography, painting, and collage intertwine, creating something that is neither purely a photo nor purely a painting, but a fusion of both.

Where Art & Photography Collide

Hybrid Art is about transformation. It’s about taking something as precise as a photograph and letting it evolve into something raw, layered, and deeply expressive.
